The Message (revisited, villanelle)
“Hope he treats you amazing,” the message appeared,
A flicker of smoke from the fire you lit.
I walk in light now, unburdened, cleared.
You spoke like a prayer, but your tone insincere -
Each syllable shaped like a dagger you bit.
“Hope he treats you amazing,” the message appeared.
Your love wore a leash and a cloak of fear,
Each joy I expressed, you would quickly omit.
I walk in light now, unburdened, cleared.
You claimed you were fierce, but you ruled through a sneer.
Each shout struck sharp, a commandment writ.
“Hope he treats you amazing,” the message appeared.
With him, there's no need to survive or steer -
No fires to dodge, no cold spells to outwit.
I walk in light now, unburdened, cleared.
You wouldn’t know love if it stood crystal-clear.
You held it too tight, you made ruins of it.
“Hope he treats you amazing,” the message appeared,
I walk in light now, unburdened, cleared.
