My older brother took me a Vowels show when I was 11. He was friends with them in high school, and he knew that I was already starting to like heavy music. It was at this dirty all ages venue and their set was awesome. Their vocalist was reading the lyrics from a diary between each few bars. I could see the guitar had a weird, dark quote written on it. At the merch table, I asked the guitarist about it and he said it was from the book Lord of the Flies he had to read for school. My brother and I had $25 of allowance from our parents so we both bought shirts the band had spray painted themselves. The show ended pretty early, so we all ate at Quiznos afterwards. We shared the longer subs, and exchanged Myspace addresses. The vocalist tore out pieces of diary pages so we could write them down. My brother just got his driver's license, so he drove two of them home and me. He threw a My Chemical Romance CD in the radio, and everyone but me knew the lyrics already. Back at home I added Vowels to my Myspace top 8. I'm 30 now, and can't believe I found one of their songs again! I hope they record some new music. Does anyone know if Vowels has a Facebook page?
