fesip
Strange times are these, in which we live, forsooth ;
When young and old are taught in Falsehood's school:–
And the man who dares to tell the truth,
Is called at once a lunatic and fool.
George Francis Train in The Man of Destiny
People keep reminding me of this fesip, by telling me, in good faith, it is best to keep quiet.
Not a chance ... Not in a million years ... Over my dead body ... When hell freezes ...
When pigs fly with their tails forward !
That last one wins hands down in my book.
Allegedly it was first referenced in the 1616 edition of John Withals's English-Latin dictionary A Shorte Dictionarie for Yonge Begynners as: Pigs fly in the ayre with their tayles forward.
If you indulge for a moment in a bad translation, you'll concord it sounds like the Swiss: Pigs (Swiss) flying in the ayre (thin air) with their tales (perversions) forward.
Is this too dry to your taste?
Sadly people today only use *when pigs fly”.
All this to say, if publishing ever stops, all hands on deck, something happened to me.
