Flipping Pages

Using a keyboard shortcut to switch between tabs and windows is a revelation to me. Why is that?

Feels akin to using my fingers to flip between pages of a book — an effortless yet familiar motion. Not to say that using a mouse or trackpad isn't familiar to me now, but there's something satisfying about having that extra step removed. A finger movement equals a flip to a new webpage rather than a finger movement plus a cursor movement hitting the right tab equals a flip to a new webpage.

Perhaps I'm overthinking it, but then again it's how my brain works. I'm always thinking through my hands as a guitarist. Since my hands are an extension of my brain (and vice-versa), I think of navigating my laptop is like navigating my guitar — always trying to understand ways to approach movement in a new way. Even little keyboard shortcuts like this are ways to extend that understanding.
