Rewilding, of course, takes time. Learning what works, what doesn’t, and how to transform a space into a more complex ecosystem.

As it stands, I stare at the patches of bare earth and feel a little overwhelmed. I’ve cordoned off an experimental patch of metre square space where I sowed seeds intermixed with scatterings of the neat little pellets that is guinea pig poo. Things are growing. I water the square metre of space every day… or try to. Things are continuing to grow. Time will sprout blooms, hopefully. Insect friendly, better than dry dirt.

I’ve learnt what species of Banksia will survive in our yard, and where. Eventually, I’ll plant some Grevillea that will survive long-term. Plant by plant. Single successes because the lack of consistent green of my thumb kills off too much tubestock and mass plantings. Slowly, instead.
