“They Talk About Kale”
by Anonymous
They talk about kale,
about spirulina and sea moss,
and fermented teas that “cleanse the soul.”
They talk about being alkaline,
about earthing, breathwork,
and Chlordioxid—
but only to laugh or condemn,
never to ask why people seek it out.
But no one talks about
cigarette smoke.
Not the daily clouds
that follow you into your lungs
like ghosts that weren’t invited.
No one says:
“This poison kills faster than your herbs can heal.”
“It coats your voice in silence,
chokes your air,
and sticks to your memory like tar.”
You breathe out honesty,
but they breathe in fire
and call it freedom.
And you?
You cough in corners.
You relocate your life
away from open mouths
that burn through your peace.
They talk about kale.
They argue about MMS.
But they never talk about
the smoke that you never consented to inhale.
