Flexibility
Yesterday I realized the immense cost of my flexibility. If a flight from Oslo to Málaga can cost as little as 11€ and let's say regularly costs 100€...
...and my cost for traveling a similar distance with my car is, more or less all things considered 2000-3000€, Diesel being around 500€ of that, the factor is 20-30 or 5 for only the Diesel, or 200-300 or 50 for the super cheap ticket.
Comparing the risk involved with traveling this distance would probably lead to a similar or even higher factor.
Every few seconds there's an ever so small risk of crashing the car, damaging it beyond repair or even dying.
On a scheduled flight this risk is almost infinitely small.
So why am I doing this? Why am I paying this price? Likely the answer is a mix of “Because I can” and “Because of the adventure”.
Flexibility alone would hardly justify the immense difference in financial cost and risk.
But I wonder if flexibility in other areas of life also comes at a similar cost and risk. Maybe it's better to stick to something instead of safeguarding ones freedom and flexibility when the price is too high.
On the other hand, right now, I can afford it and maybe it's okay to live life as an adventure.
