some of my thoughts and notes

Problem-solving

I had a somewhat severe problem today.
I had left the house with all my housemates, and placed my key in the door of my housemates car. When he decided to stay in Oslo for longer, I decided to take the 1 hour drive back with another friend. But my key was still in the car.

I thought of calling our landlord, but was almost sure that he wouldn't have a key. I figured that at home I would first check if the backdoor was open, and if not, try if I could get into the garage to get the ladder to get on the balcony and check if the door there was open. Only then would I call my housemate, to find out if he was planning to come back in the evening, and then the landlord.

If those options were all not available, I would either try to get onto the balcony without the ladder, or, if I had gotten the ladder, would go the uncomfortable and more dangerous route of climbing through another small open window.

If that also didn't work, I would find another place to spend the night.

Luckily, I could get the ladder, and the door on the balcony was open.
Nothing else necessary. Problem solved.

The takeaway: it is good to make plans and create options while you still can, but most often it is unnecessary to get stressed about problems, because most often, the solution will come.
