Water
Yesterday, the water supply to our office froze. Suddenly, we couldn't flush the toilet anymore, we couldn't use the dishwasher, and instead of using the large isolating bottle to keep coffee warm we simply used it to carry water up from the workshop.
It was horrific, I mean.. horrible of course!
But no, seriously, I kind of enjoyed it. I only felt slightly guilty for not having listened to Peer who had told us that the water would freeze if we don't keep it running, but as nobody else had listened to him either, nobody was blaming me and I found it quite interesting to observe how quickly this place of ours was plunging into chaos and how it affected everybody's mood.
Today I told Nils that this reminded me a lot of how I usually deal with water when I sleep in my car: I have to plan how much I need when I'm away from any source, and I naturally become very resourceful with it.
He didn't really enjoy listening to my comparison. And to all our joy, after applying some heat to the frozen tubes, we got the water running again. And suddenly, turning on the dishwasher and setting up a coffee was quite enjoyable.
Even the most fundamental comforts in life need to disappear once in a while for us to be able to appreciate them appropriately.
