Dear Senators
“Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me.” Matthew 25:40
Dear Senators Moran and Marshall,
There comes a tipping point when one has accumulated enough wealth that amassing more becomes pointless. There’s no risk of losing enough to be impactful, and there isn’t anything that can’t already be bought. Elon Musk has far exceeded this level of wealth and does not instill a sense of efficiency in me.
As reported in Rolling Stone, “Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, said that if Donald Trump wins and gives him a role in government, Americans will suffer “hardship” as a result of efforts to address the national debt.” Americans except for him. He will make no contribution in addressing the national debt, or any other tax structure. “He made the comments Friday in a virtual town hall on his website, X. When asked about “tackling the nation’s debt,” he mentioned changing the tax code, and then went on to say there would be some financial difficulty imposed on some Americans. “Most importantly, we have to reduce spending to live within our means,” he said.”
Imposition of hardship from which you are exempt is not a principle I want to see in government advisors or officials.
To appoint such a person as Musk to a “government efficiency” advisory board, when he has made it clear his goal is to inflict suffering, makes no sense.
I have faithfully paid into my Social Security for my entire adult life, and have included that benefit in my retirement plans. The idea that you might allow a person like Musk to steal any portion of my retirement savings is frightening.
Additionally, I suspect that there will be a push for privatization of government institutions like Medicare, Medicaid, social security, and the post office. I would like to suggest that, like our current healthcare system, privatization of any of these will result in sub-standard services in favor of shareholder earnings. Exactly the opposite of what healthcare should be.
Please consider blocking President Trump’s creation of the DOGE Advisory Board as it is clearly at odds with the well-being of the American People.
Thank you for considering,
