GTW { for composition} >> SyncNotes + {editing and preview} >> AceMark {double check} and Noto {for filing} .
Then of course into writeFreely, to post on write.as, until I get vivejournal.com running writefreely, and then yeah..There’s my mastodon project too.. One day at a time..
GTW is the only editor with a trackball (it’s really well executed), has an incredible file-manager, and does a lot of export options. It’s unique.
SyncNotes+ has been dead simple and extremely responsive for years.
AceMark has great themes and a lovely template engine (you can write your own css)..
Noto is gorgeous and has great preview and is an up and coming polished offering without being overly complicated, but still does a lot.
Some additional notes:
- Editorial is outdated and nearly useless,
1Writer is pretty nice but misses a lot of marks.
Type is pretty nice but still an up and commer.
OneMarkDown and MWeb are basically the same app, a new engine in OneMarkDown and an old abandoned buggy as hell concept of a static site generator in MWeb.
iAWriter is fantastic but feels very sloppy to use but is quite feature rich if not a bit behind..
Lastly,
- Drafts is WAY too complicated, but extremely powerful; Although the sliding bar and interface generally make me want to tear out my hair and become a monk.
hope this helps *someone better spend their money and less of their life getting pissed off at iApps.

I omitted things like Bear, Ulysses, Wordsmith, Evernote, and Writemator – Because they are a different category entirely and my brain does not enjoy that type of application workflow...
In general they are “too pretty,” and “too symbolic,” ultimately too hard to be efficient with, which is ultimately extremely frustrating, and counter-productive.
Runner up: “Mettle.” It would be a half-way point, between symbolic and power user type interfaces and workflow, but it gets disqualified because I managed to crash it three times in under an hour. With semi-total data loss.
