Foolish Earth Creatures: June 2025

Just a quick dev blog this month to say that I'm making progress on the game.
The current word count is about 30,000 words. Frustratingly there's no easy way to separate text from code in a Twine game and get a word count of just the text, so that count includes code as well as player-facing words, but I'd guess that at least 20,000 of those words are actual words. This means that the whole game is looking to be in the region of 100,000 words when it's finished, which is longer than I'd initially expected and so will make development take more time, but also means that I'll feel better about asking people to pay $5 for it when it's finished.
At the moment I've got the first draft of the first act of the game maybe ¾ complete. I have two chapters that I'm working on at the moment (switching to one when I'm blocked on the other). Once I've finished the first drafts of them, I'm intending to ask for a few playtesters to give general feedback just to make sure that the player experience is what I intend.
I'm also fleshing out my plan for the rest of the game and coming up with more characters and setting details I can use. General Zorg won't be Vorak's only minion, and your customizable wingman won't be your only ally. More on this in a later dev blog, maybe.
Can our hero finish Act I of his game, or will the scope of the project get away from him? Learn more in next month's developer diary!
