Hello World

I’ve decided to start a blog to share my ideas with the world. This blog is federated, which means it can be followed at @blog@jshaked.com from any fediverse-enabled software.

The fediverse, a portmanteau of “federated” and “universe,” describes the burgeoning ecosystem of open web social protocol alternatives (ActivityPub, ATproto, Farcaster, Nostr, etc.) to walled-garden social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, etc. Other names for the fediverse include “open social,” “the social web,” and “DeSo” (short for decentralized social).

The web is largely a communications platform, and social is too important to be owned by one person or company (I’m looking at you, Zuck). The fediverse brings us closer to the idea that the web itself is a social network by absorbing the features and functionality of social into an open web protocol.

With this blog, I hope to experiment with new ways to engage an audience through the fediverse and explore the commercial viability of the fediverse through education, evidence-based research, and engagement with industry leaders.
