Disney + (A Rant on Netflix)

*Obligatory blog post as a diehard Disney fan

*Cue rant.

I happily traded in my Netflix account for a brand new, wonderful Disney+. Finally no more Netflix trying to push me to watch their originals! No more subpar content!

Stream all the best stories, really. Quality over quantity!

I'm sick of Netflix pushing their originals as much as Robin is sick of puns at Metro News 1.

You might be wondering why I didn't cancel my Netflix sooner. I also wonder that myself. I used to like Netflix when it first started as a DVD mail delivery service. But slowly, I began to hate Netflix and everything it stands for. I hate how Netflix put Blockbuster out of business. I hate the Netflix originals. Everything about Netflix goes against my ideals about movies and entertainment.

Too much emphasis is placed on novelty. Content is created in a rush to be consumed and then thrown away and forgotten as you move on to the next new crappy thing, then rinse and repeat. There’s no life, no soul, in its content. I hate the way Netflix is influencing how we consume entertainment.

Consume entertainment. I hate that word – consume. Entertainment is not meant to be consumed. It's meant to be enjoyed, relished and sipped like wine. We Americans consume our entertainment the way we consume our food. Filling hollow vessels without ever being fulfilled, without regard to taste, pleasure or enjoyment. By constantly churning out low-quality content, Netflix is the fast food equivalent to entertainment.

This is Netflix.

And for too long, I was a participant in that lifestyle as well, not truly enjoying entertainment but using it as a way to forget whatever realities I wanted to avoid. But no more – with Disney+, I can now can have entertainment that I actually like!

Disney focuses on quality even if it's slower. The studio itself has been almost a hundred years in the making. Each movie takes nearly a decade to make but it’s so worth it because you can re-watch and treasure it for many years to come.

My faith in Hollywood was being chipped away day by day with how Netflix is doing its business and the endless, mind-numbing superhero action movies released each year. But Disney is turning the tide. Disney is taking back Hollywood and saying “hey, quality entertainment matters!”

And boy, am I impressed with Disney+. The amount of choices is amazing!

In addition I can’t wait to try the old Mickey shorts, Pooh series, old school live action movies like Old Yeller, National Geographic, 90s and 00s Disney Channel Series like The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place (I’ve never watched them), Pixar favorites and so much more!!

But let me re-watch my favorites first. All this entertainment is enough to hold me over for a year, for eternity probably.

I had low expectations for the Disney streaming service at first, thanks to Netflix. I used to be jealous of people with huge collections of Disney DVDs (which were hard to come by because of this thing called the vault).

So jealous

I never thought I'd have that kind of access to all the Disney movies until I got Disney+. It’s like a dream come true! Disney has exceeded my expectations...again!

It's unreal, all my favorite movies in one place! It’s magical. Seriously, unless you're a Disney fan, you don't get how important it is to have all the Disney movies together! I’ve never been this spoiled. I’m being treated like royalty. This makes me so, so happy ❤

Now we have all this high-quality content. Disney is to entertainment as the Mediterranean diet is to food.

It’s like Christmas came early. It’s like being a kid in a candy store. Or being in a buffet with all your favorite food and you don't even know where to start. Can we say — best day ever!!!

These sum up how I feel about Disney+

Disney+ is amazing. The format is really nice, easy to use and not annoying like Netflix.

If you want to watch other stuff besides Disney, I highly recommend getting the Disney+ Hulu and ESPN bundle. For literally the same price as Netflix, you can have anything your heart desires from:
- animated operatic symphonies to
- Disney Channel series
- favorite TV shows from the 90s and 00s (including How I Met Your Mother, of course!)
- sports
It's a world of difference from Netflix. A WORLD of difference. To have this much high quality content is truly blessed.

In short, Disney+ is a must-have for any Disney fan.

You know what would be perfect? A movie night in with Disney+ and some snacks:
- prosciutto
- nuts (pistachios perhaps)
- cheese
- wine or juice
- fruit

Not mine but I wish

That's definitely not all. I could go on and on forever but I'll stop here before I convince you that I'm certifiably insane. Besides, I have a long list of Disney+ movies to get to.
