The blogging platform I'll use in 2023

Since we are at the beginning of a new year I thought I would look at how Wordpress.com, Medium and Write.as. have been performing for me.

My first post of 439 on Wordpress.com was in September 2015. In reviewing my lifetime stats one thing stood out to me. 84% of visitors to my site came from search and primarily google search. That means that only 16% of visitors were from the Wordpress.com Reader network or other. In 7 years I had accumulated only 54 internal followers.

I cross-posted almost everything I published on Wordpress.com to Medium. My first post of 459 was in September 2015. On Medium, I have 28,000 more lifetime views and 2780 followers vs 54. This tells me that Medium's built-in readership has value in helping you build a following.

I started publishing posts on Write.as at the beginning of 2022. As a test, I published this post “Where I sell my used Apple devices” a few days ago on Wordpress.com, Medium, and here on Write.as. I wanted to compare the results:

Wordpress.com: 7 views
Medium: 28 views
Write.as 43 views

Like Medium Write.as has an active community of readers.

All this may not make sense to you but it does to me. It helped me decide that I will publish my posts here on Write.as and crosspost them to Medium. Bye, Bye Wordpress.com.
