Bible Study: Godliness with Contentment is Great Gain
🔥 The Trinity of Great Gain
1 Timothy 4:8 + 1 Timothy 6:6–8 + Matthew 6:33
1 Timothy 4:8 KJV
“For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”
1 Timothy 6:6–8 KJV
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”
Matthew 6:33 KJV
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
đź‘‘ JOB: The Blueprint of Righteous Godliness
- Job 1:1 – “Perfect and upright, feared God, eschewed evil.”
- Job didn’t chase stuff—he chased righteousness. Godliness.
- And what happened? All these things were added unto him. Job was:
- The richest man in the East
- Surrounded by favor, family, and faith
- The embodiment of godliness with contentment
💀 Then—everything was gone in a day.
- Satan, the accuser, brought charges.
- God allowed the stripping—twice.
- Not to break Job, but to prove him. To smelt him.
Psalm 105:17–19 KJV
“He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.”
- The word “tried” in Hebrew (צָרַף tsaraph) means to smelt—to refine metal in fire.
- When you smelt a sword, you don’t destroy it. You shape it. You hammer it.
- The sparks flying off? Impurities.
- Joseph was smelted in the pit and in prison.
- Job was smelted in loss and in silence.
- You and I? Smelted by pain, pressure, testing, and time.
🔨 Make No Mistake:
- God does not tempt. Temptation comes from flesh and the accuser.
- But God does test. And the test is the furnace.
Not to make you weep (though you will)…
But to refine you into glory.
What gets hammered off in the process?
- Doubt
- Unbelief
- Pride
- Carnal reactions
- Judgment
- Envy
- Strife
And when those things are gone?
You begin to walk in real godliness.
And when you add contentment to that godliness…
You become an unstoppable force of supernatural, heavenly delight to everyone around you.
⚖️ Righteousness + Godliness = Twin Flames 🔥🔥
- Righteousness is your standing with God.
- Godliness is your walking with God.
- You stand by faith (like Abraham), and walk by faith (like Job).
Romans 4:3 KJV
“For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.”
So we can say:
Abraham believed → was declared righteous → lived godly → gained everything.
💎 “All These Things Shall Be Added…” — But Only If:
- You seek first the Kingdom—not the blessings.
- You trust God’s process—even when it hurts.
- You stand still in the fire—because the fire is not your enemy.
🪙 Godliness Profits in THIS Life:
- Peace in the storm
- Clarity in confusion
- Hope in the darkness
- Provision from God—not man
- Favor with those around you
- Purpose that gives your pain meaning
🌌 Godliness Profits in the NEXT Life:
- Eternal life with Christ
- Crowns and reward in glory
- No more pain or sorrow
- Intimate communion with God forever
- Legacy that echoes beyond the grave
✝️ Why Is Contentment “Great Gain”?
Because it says:
“I already have everything I need in Christ.
If He adds more, I’ll use it for His glory.
If He takes it away, I still win.”
đź’§ Out of You Flows Rivers
When you’ve been through the fire and come out refined…
John 7:38 KJV
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
You’re no longer driven by ego or need.
You don’t have to prove doctrine.
You don’t have to win debates.
You don’t even have to be right.
Jesus was right on the way to the cross… and He kept silent so that the war could be won.
🎯 Final Sparks from the Furnace:
- Your godliness is not for show.
- It’s not earned by effort.
- It’s birthed by faith, and proven in fire.
- And once it’s refined, it flows out of you like a river—living water to the thirsty.
You live now with an audience of One:
- God the Father
- God the Son
- God the Spirit
And when God sees you, He doesn’t see sin.
He sees His Son.
Romans 10:13 KJV
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you have called upon the Name of the Lord, you are saved.
And if you are Born Again, then His Spirit lives in you.
John 3:3–5 KJV
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
…Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
Jesus was forsaken so you would never be.
Your sins are cast as far as the east is from the west.
You are forever debt-free, stress-free, and covered by righteousness.
Now walk…
Smelted.
Shaped.
Strengthened.
Full of God.
Full of gain.
Flowing like a river.Â
