Under Constant Construction as is My Soul

Passed Over

I love Passover.

Easter. Passover.

I love Passover—

but I hate being passed over.

Because sometimes that’s how it feels.

Like grace skipped our street.

Like mercy missed our mailbox.

We love it when the angel of death passes over.

We shout hallelujah when tragedy swerves at the last second.

When by the Grace of God we swerve out of the sound of squealing tires and screaming metal.

When we escape certain death.

We love being passed over then, don’t we?

But what about the blessings that never came?

What about the miracles that never quite made it?

What about the revival that burned everywhere but here?

What about us, Lord?

And what about you?

Ask yourself, What about me?

What about my need, my dream, my night-cry no one hears?

At The Lord’s Table, lives aren’t polished into perfection—but those lives ARE changed.

We drag our pain to Jesus and dare people to come meet the Master with us.

People don’t show up here by accident, either. We don’t even have a sign on the street. I’ve been kicked off Facebook so our social media presence is limping like it just walked over a landmine. It just about takes an Act of God for someone to find this church…

… or word of mouth. Because Eric told his Dad Ray. And Ray told Frank. And Jenny told her son Jim. And Sherri told Jesse and Faun.

Who’d you tell?

It is my experience that nobody comes to church because of Facebook; they come through word of mouth. And at the Lord’s Table Church, lives are changed.

And I thank you for that, Lord!

Before we go on, let me give you thi scripture:

Philippians 2:7 KJVS

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Philippians 2:7 NASB95

but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

What people don’t realize is, God emptied himself, too. Meaning God, the father emptied himself. He had to otherwise the scripture in Matthew would hold no power:

Matthew 28:18-19 NASB95

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Jesus emptied himself and came to earth as the son of man, operating as a man, turning water to wine and walking on water. And when he ascended to heaven, he received all authority in heaven on earth, as his heavenly father emptied himself of all authority in heaven and earth, and gave it to his only begotten son and whom he is well pleased.

Emptying yourself is a very Christlike and Godlike-like attitude. Sometimes we need to empty ourselves of our denominational assertations, even our own beliefs… And just come to scripture and let the scripture speak as if we were second graders, reading it for the first time. And as little children reading the word of God, believing every single word. And letting scripture interpret scripture as much as we are able.
