Falling asleep is the hard part

Waking up early is not the challenge. Falling asleep is.

I don't remember ever being able to easily fall asleep. Even when I was tired. Even when I was sleep deprived. Even then I stirred for a good half an hour before dozing off.

I can somewhat make it easier by taking melatonin, but I don't think it's healthy to be dependent on it.

Reducing “blue light” in the evening can also help. Less computer screens, phones, tablets, bright room light. Being exposed to the sun during daytime also helps.

Nothing beats Maldives atolls in this regard – sunny days, dark nights and shitty Wi-Fi. No youtube for you in the bed.

Morale of the story – move to Maldives.
