The project of converting my front yard from turf grass with Asian shrubs to all native plants.

paw paw update

On sleet covered ground, a spin style mop bucket has a leafless sapling planted in plain dirt.

The paw paw tree project is not part of the front yard project, but it's native, so I’m posting it anyway.

I found out I messed up by heeling these saplings in Miracle-Gro potting soil instead of yard dirt. These should not be exposed to fertilizer or soil containing it for the first year. On advice from Willis Orchard, I rinsed the roots and repotted in yard dirt. I put mulch on top to help them retain moisture and put them back in the shed.

They get planted late winter when the freezing is not so bad.
