Earth Day 2023
Find out why we need to act now (in reality, we needed to for a long time)
“For Earth Day 2023, we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.”, 22nd of April 2023 https://earthday.org

The numbers
- 538 billion plastic bottles in 2021 Source
- Approximately five trillion plastic bags in 2023 Source
- half a billion drinking straws every day in America only Source
- more than 50 billion coffee cups in America only Source
- more than 4.5 trillion cigarette butts every year Source
What we can do
- forget about meat, here’s why (thanks @lil5@fosstodon.org)
- take reusable bottles and cups with you (especially on hot days btw)
- take reusable bags with you when you plan to shop
- no one needs straws except when driving, and drinking and driving isn’t a good idea anyway
- stop smoking (or lower the amount of it if you can)
- turn your electric belongings off when you leave (light bulbs, TV, PC, just everything)
- consider using public transport or riding your bicycle instead of driving via car
- even more ideas? There are so many things we can do!
What’s already done
- Germany is inventing a new subscription. One can travel through the whole country by public transport for just €49 a month.
- Biden is about to pledge $500 billion to stop deforestation in Brazil
- Europe's most powerful nuclear reactor kicks off in Finland
- Sun, wind power make record 12% of world electricity
