National Arbor Day

Today is National Arbor day! What’s that?

“Every tree planted is a Yes. Yes to our communities. Yes to fighting climate change. And Yes to a greener future.

This Arbor Day, it's your turn to say Yes.”, 22nd April 2023 https://arborday.org

The Arbour Day Foundation is planting trees since 1972. There are tons of reasons to do that.

Trees pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. If a mature tree is fully grown, it can remove around 48 pounds (ca. 22 kg) of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange, according to the USDA.

Trees clean water by capturing rainwater and recharging underground aquifers, as reported by the North Carolina Forest Service.

Trees slow flooding by holding water in their leaves and then evaporating it into the air later, according to JSTOR Daily. These woody plants also absorb water by their roots and slow the water flow into rivers and other water bodies, described HubPages.

Trees cool our cities by up to 10 degrees and provide shade, “which can help prevent heat-related deaths in urban areas”, states Arbor Day Foundation.

Trees even reduce stress, improve our health and development in children. Source.

What now?

I guess we have to plant trees. Everywhere. Can you help?
