dealings between North Korea and Singapore
I have my doubts about the impact of an organisation like Choson Exchange ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choson_Exchange )
For example, I would be curious how many people live in poverty in North Korea, and out of these, what percentage feature in the publicity materials of Choson Exchange. 1 out of 1,000? 1 out of 10,000?
The books I've read – memoirs by North Koreans who have managed to escape – paint a far more bitter and grimy picture than the wonderland of entrepreneurs that the Wikipedia article would have me believe.
Here I mention a couple of such memoirs:
- Hyeonseo Lee's book, “The girl with seven names: a North Korean defector's story”.
- Lucia Jang's book, “Stars between the sun and moon: One woman's life in North Korea and escape to freedom”.
