Earlier today a friend asked how my tournament games were going.

Checkmate 22July 2025

The graphic above shows the final board of a game I won this afternoon playing Black. My Rook to g7 checkmated the White King and ended the game.

CC (Correspondence Chess) games rarely end by checkmate. Most often the losing player will realize at some point that he has no clear path forward and he'll resign the game, giving his opponent the win by default, and giving both him and his opponent more time to focus on their other games. As most of us usually have many active games in progress at any one time, that's simply the polite thing to do.

As I told my friend this morning, I'm playing as I normally do: wining some, losing some more.

And the adventure continues.
