Third Time is the Charm...
Well, hello there! Welcome to my new blog, Slightly Unhinged! As the title of this post implies, this is by no means my first blog. This IS, however, my first blog on Write.as. So far, the concept behind Write.as is pretty darn neat, so I thought I would give this a try...starting now!
Now, I did mention two other blogs, didn't I? For those of you who don't know me, I already had two blogs out on Wordpress; “Totally Imperfect” and “Memoirs of a Disturbed Mind”. Much like this blog, those blogs were focused on mental health and mental health advocacy. When I returned to start a new blog over at wordpress, I found that wordpress “upgraded” their design and I can honestly say I ...
Truly.
Hate.
It.
And...here I am.
So far. So good!
So, Write.as is totally the opposite of Wordpress, not gonna lie. Wordpress has all these doohickeys and thingamajigs; so many options, settings, customizations out of the wazoo. My brain went “BOOM” and suddenly I found myself in a mental straitjacket. I HAD it all figured out before hand when they used the classic-mode editting, and then they decided that nooooooooo....we can't do that! We must use block editing!
Like.
Seriously?!
Agh!
Anyway. Write.as is as minimalistic as they come. Which serves a few purposes. The most obvious purpose is it allows you to write. And write. And write. More time to spend on writing; less time spent on wrangling code with a website.
It works. There are a few caveats though. People can't comment on this blog unless you have what the admins rightfully call “Remark.as”. I did want comments, and there is a way to make it happen, but for now, it's okay. It's good for what I want it for. It's a great start.
So what's the deal with this blog, you ask?
Slightly Unhinged? But Trying? Is this going to be some crazy-arse blog with off-beat stories? Maybe. Basically, though, it combines two of my passions into one ... pet project.
1.) Writing : I absolutely love writing. I'm told I'm a great writer. And I need to write more. But there's this thing called “Writer's Block” that is a pain in the rear end. So how does one go about beating this so-called “Writer's Block”, you ask? Easy! Make it into part of your routine. Establish a routine on just writing. And it becomes second nature to you!
That's the theory anyway.
2.) Mental health and mental health advocacy : I've always wanted to be an advocate. I love helping others. And in my own personal journey, I discovered something incredibly important. I discovered that people absolutely have mental health issues. Everyone does. Everywhere I go, people have a story to tell.
The problem is... some people are afraid to tell it. And this stems from the stigma attached to mental health. People are afraid to voice their fears, their struggles, and they sit in the darkness of their own mind, feeling alone, struggling against the unkind and uncaring world we all live in.
But you are NOT alone. I am not alone. No one is truly alone. We are all just a wee bit crazy, surviving in a world of insanity.
Since this is just an introductory post to my blog, I won't go into specific details. Just know that I want to share with you my experiences, other people's experiences; sometimes I might even veer off into another subject, but this blog will primarily be about mental health.
And not a boring one either. I'm all about fun, laughter, exploration, understanding.
Acceptance.
Communication.
So... Welcome to my blog.
Slightly Unhinged. (But I'm Trying!)
