Storage Server pt1

Over the past few weeks I have slowly been assembling another pc box with old parts, with the vision to use it as a storage server.

My initial dilemma was the question of running Ubuntu Server or Arch. In the end I leaned towards Arch because it will likely do everything I need with minimal fuss and I can set to run unattended updates with a systemd timer. And I don't need to worry about something not being in this version.

So I set up a USB, and attempted to boot it… and no go. The fans spin up for a few seconds, the whole thing then powers off and repeats the cycle. After a bunch of unplugging and removing things down to the miminim of stuff left to boot… I called it a night.

Maybe I should be running some new stuff instead of decade+ old hardware.

Who'd have thought.

Back to the drawing board… and to work out how little I can get away with spending, I suppose.
