Would I be an arsehole? Event Photography magazines.

I have had this idea for a while.

Instead of uploading all the (culled and curated) images from an event I have covered to a website, I could print a bunch of magazines. Charge minimal for each one, just over covering costs, and that way people have a record of the event that is far less ephemeral. Plus they can use as photo contact sheet of sorts to order prints from if they wish.

All previous event magazines are for sale on the website, for the same purpose. This would rely heavily on reputation, that it would be worth people bothering to order an event magazine if they want to order a print if they had not done so already.

I feel like the last part may be going too far? I mean “if you have a website just put the images there, duh”.

I feel like printed images mean more, especially if they are not available anywhere else and the ONLY versions available are print, of any sort. So… artificial scarcity, I guess? Which is why I question if this is a good idea. Maybe I am too full of myself to think this is a good idea… but perhaps not, as it is not overly common for images to be purchased anyway.

I do provide digital copies to a couple of clubs (and will continue to do so) that give access and allow me to renew my motorsport accreditation, so they would still have digital copies anyway… perhaps it doesn’t really matter as much as I think.

I am open to input on the subject, this is a “hobby” but I know my images are appreciated by those attending events. I’ll check replies on the fediverse, or matrix if needed.
