Poetry for people who could use a little kindness

Hikari

(“Hikari” is Japanese for “light”)

Oh, my sad friend
I can see the dark in your eyes
It's closing in again, isn't it?
Cutting off the sun and blackening the skies.

I hate to see you this way
So downcast and forlorn
No one else sees it,
They neither weep nor mourn

I used to fear
that I'd see nothing more
That the light in you would die
And you'd lose the fight and the war

Now I know there is more
I see something in your eyes
Not pain, not misery
But an idea on the rise

You found your way out of the dark
All you needed was a paper and pen
So don't lose hope, my love
For the light will shine again
