Keeping the Faith

I believe in my country
That waving flag promises freedom
And hope and opportunity
A bright new future

But to so many
it broke that promise
They believed in that flag
but it didn't believe in them

It's easy to point a finger
at someone else entirely
To say it's their fault
We didn't do anything

That's the problem
We didn't do anything
Now people are forced to scream
just to get our attention

We all have a right to be angry
Those are our brothers and sisters
betrayed by that flag
It lied to all of us

But it still stands for something
It's up to us to decide what
But with decision must come action
Good people must do something

If we want people to keep the faith
We must act to fix our problems
We all stand together
When it lies to one, it lies to us all

Except that flag is only a symbol
It can't do anything
It's not the one that started this
We did

We broke the promise
We turned a blind eye to the lies
So now it's up to us
We all have to fix it

Because we are better than that
