People made you feel
like they were more important than you
They talked over you, cut you off
as though no one wanted to listen to you

When you tried to speak
they ignored you, dismissed you
because they couldn’t see
what was special about you

Maybe you didn’t see it either
But there is something unique about you
It may take time to find
You may be afraid to show the real you

Please, don’t be afraid
I know I’ll like what’s special about you
When you find it and show it off
People will listen to you
