I wanted to show how much I care
So I sat and listened to you talk
But I didn't respond or react
So you thought I wasn't paying attention

I tried again and again
I smiled when you made a joke
But I got it wrong again
Because you weren't joking

I tried asking about something you'd said
I was sure I'd gotten it right
But you'd already told me the answer
I just hadn't been paying attention

I want to listen
I'm just not very good at it
But I will keep trying
to show that I care
