poems from the place between

Roots and Wings

How can I grow
Both roots and wings?
What strange chimera
Strains to fly
While anchored deep
Within the soil?
I tear myself in two
At the centre,
My heart cracks open
Like a shell.
Salt tears flow forth
As aqua sancta
Tristessimus
.
Rend my flesh,
Consume me -
Til all that remains
Glinting like a pearl,
Inviolate and unacknowledged,
Is the question.
