The Lake

I went to the deep lake,
You know the one;
Where the hazels grow
So low they touch the water.
I threw in my past,
And watched the ripples
Expand in circles to the edge.
I drank of bitter wisdom
And learned the truth
Which I already knew.
The only person
Holding me back
Is me.
It always was.
Peeling off my layers,
Shedding skin,
Naked and exposed to air,
I dived beneath the mirror,
And reached the further shore.
