Megumi "Mega Megu" Fujii

I don't know how many people reading this follow Mixed Martial Arts or combat sports in general but either way I'd like to bring your attention to a one fighter in particular. Megumi Fujii is a retired Japanese MMA fighter who hasn't been talked about nearly enough over the years. As an introduction please check out this highlight video!

Holding black belts in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu along with being a 1st Razryad International Master in Sambo, Fujii's grappling skills were always far beyond her opponent's. Her fast paced submission grappling style won her accolades in a time when women's MMA was looked down upon.

As part of her MMA career Fujii went on a 22 fight unbeaten streak before losing a controversial split decision to Zoila Frausto for the Bellator women's 115 pound title. In addition to being one of the best women's fighters ever in MMA she earned bronze medals in competition at ADCC in 2005 and 2007.

She had her last fight on October 5, 2013 and retired with a record of 26 wins and 3 losses. The main question that surrounds her in 2021 is whether she is the pound for pound greatest women's fighter ever or if that title belongs to Amanda Nunes. It seems harder and harder to argue for Fujii as the greatest when Nunes continues to rack up dominate wins, but Fujii deserves a place in the history books as much as any fighter.
