Some Double or Nothing 2020 Thoughts

The Buy In

Best Friends vs. Private Party

I would have liked to have seen a better match as a preview to the actual show. Wasn't bad, but Private Party looked a tad rusty in a few spots. Definitely should have been a shorter match with just a few spots to give Private Party the reps they need. Bright future ahead for those guys though.

Double or Nothing 2020 Main Card

Casino Ladder Match

A good (not great) match that landed at about the quality I expected. The Orange Cassidy stuff was mostly great but him standing on the ladder that was not setup possibly stretched over from laziness to him being stupid. Brian Cage was done perfectly and was exactly who I wanted the surprise to be. Maybe now that Taz is a heel that will bring back the weekly guest commentators for Dark? Also Jimmy Havoc needs to keep the suit.

MJF vs. Jungle Boy

Would have been the match of the night on most events. Just incredible performances from both men that surpassed my expectations. This match had a solid build but the in-ring storytelling was something else.

Cody vs. Lance Archer

This one was not quite as good as some of the previous big Cody matches although still well done. Cody winning made the most sense but it is too bad they couldn't have him win a title in AEW in front of a a large crowd.

Kris Statlander vs. Penelope Ford

This match surpassed my expectations and was the exact length it needed to be. I didn't know whether or not this match would be enjoyable for me but it was in the end. Glad to see more women's matches on AEW PPVs

Dustin Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears

This was mostly good but should not have been on the PPV. The bit could have been done on the next Dynamite and Tully Blanchard's face on Spears' shorts was too WWE humour. I will say that this segment did accomplish its goal well though.

Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida

Second best AEW women's match ever. It was no disqualification for the women's title and was fantastic the whole way through. Emi Sakura's reaction to Shida's win was super cute as well. A match that surpassed what I thought it would be!

Jon Moxley vs. Brodie Lee

Proof that Brodie can go. I knew this one would be good but I didn't realize quite how good. The finish was very well done and to be honest I thought this was better than Moxley vs. Jericho.

Stadium Stampede

Not the greatest match of all time but probably the most entertaining. Everything with Adam Page was perfect and so was having this match go on last. Glad to finally see the Elite standing tall. This was so much fun!

Overall Thoughts

The Stadium Stampede was so good it keep the PPV from feeling too long since I never wanted that match to end. To be honest this might have been the best show AEW has ever done and if there was a full crowd in Daily's Place it would have been the best by far. Just extremely well done.
