Welcome Back Kottke
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Funny, after well over a decade of hearing of Kottke.org, and never clicking the link to visit, I decided to see “what it's all about”, thinking it would be like Jezebel or some other news/blog thing like that. I had no idea it was a personal blog and a one man show. That visit happened the day after Jason Kottke started his sabbatical from blogging, but now he's back.
I think I clicked over from the interview series that Rebecca Blood (Rebecca's Pocket) did in 2014(?) (::checks::), no, 2006! where she talked to “big” bloggers and their take on things (right here). I loved that series Rebecca Blood did, and it made me want to do my own blog interview series, and also bring in the “bigger” names in the field. As well as have sections of relevance, such as:
interviews (part 1)
concepts, practices, and outlets (part 2)
eras (part 3)
outro/summary (part 4)
As I see it, there are four “eras” for blogging, and I would do a short form interview with two bloggers from each era. Those eras are:
initial/conceptual 1998-2003 era (era 1)
professional/ad-supported 2004-2011 era (era 2)
social-first 2012-2020 era (era 3)
IndieWeb/independent/decentralized preference 2021-20?? era (era 4)
...I think that is pretty accurate
There's a lot that I have down in my notes (questions to ask, people to communicate with, contact info for each, etc)
So, it could be a good series (really, just one large post when all is said and done), but I must establish contact with all participants, and have them agree to be interviewed (if even shortform through e-mail).
I mention this here, because Kottke would (or I would prefer) be the first person I do an interview with, because that could lend credibility/interest with the other bloggers involved.
So, I will see how it goes. I sent an introductory e-mail to Kottke back when, but it was right when he stopped blogging for 7 months, so who knows what got read and when. I will re-introduce myself, and hope he has some interest.
