when old meets new
Props to the guy who is developing #DOStodon
, because I find it a novel and good way to melding the old ways of (retro) computing with the new ways that people communicate online today (more and more so with Mastodon).
Be fooled not, I am not going over to Mastodon, but following certain hashtags on my RSS reader (still undecided if I will spring for Feedbin tonight – unknown) is a treat, because I see “the best” of what the service has to offer, without the headache and politics of consolidating a (public (why?)) following/follower count, attempts at virality, and just generally expecting (or at least having some assumption) of a feedback loop for everything I say online. I know that most people like Masto for being like “old twitter”, but that is just the mindframe I had when I used Masto for about a month after quitting Twitter, and yea, it's sorta true, but also it is not how one should want to “be” online.
It's like: dreams fulfilled, now figure something else out.
Anyway, the hashtag feeds are great. Small/amusing info contained therein (I currently follow three hashtags – (#)screenshotsunday, (#)zine, and (#)retrocomputing.
And yes, DOStodon is what it sounds like, a Mastodon client for MS DOS. Screenshots littered throughout that hashtag, so click away and be impressed!
