an update-update

Here I am, Comfort Inn. Wtching Retro Recipes and the tour of the Commodore factory in China, as RR has rejeuvenated the Commodore name, brand, company, everything – he bought the whole bit! Authentic to the core.

While I do so, I reflect on the day. A good one, a lucky one.

I started the day going to the BHCC, escaping the hotel. A shower and laundry, and as I waited, I called a random number in my list of potential places to rent that was given to me by HUD. The random number, for a property in Crystal City (nearby town) said: “yes, we have availability. Yes, we accept HUD. It is available right now” and, after some chatting about all my background, income source, and other nuts and bolts of my scenario, he said to come by at 2:00 and tour the apartment.

I did, and it looks great! I had a lease in my hand by the end of the discussion! I spoke to the SSVF, who is covering the security deposit, and they said things look good insofar as a walkthru goes through with no issue by them. HUD (the manager at the Housing Authority), said that they can do their inspection by next Thursday OR two weeks after, once they return from their holiday vacation.

Me, I pay X amount of money (with or without HUD) on Jan 1, and move in....to be determined! A week? Less (very possible).

But, I have the place. All things check out.

This has been an astronomical struggle since August 3 2025 to secure an apartment, and (belive it or not) this is the fast way of doing it, as an apartment hunt and move-in would have been a slogggg if I had done so from xyz property or xyz (foreign, awful) town. I did all this while camping in the parks of my hometown, Festus, and now I am ready for move-in in the quietest part of the city, ½ mile from Crystal City Park, sandwiched between an elementary school (very quiet around there at night, Crystal City Library (quiet rthere all the time), and above a hair salon (quiet there after 8 PM).

Deets:

775 square feet
$800 per month
two bedrooms
light-colored laminate (faux wood) floor
all electric
new stove/oven
new built-in microwave
new fridge
moderate upgrades can be made to/in the place (if within reason)
all utilities included except electric

I plan on putting the l-shaped desk in the living room, area rugs throughout, acoustic panels on walls in living room, as well as ceiling. Essentially, ignoring the two bedrooms because I sleep on the floor anyway, and no need for a bed, bed-room, or any furniture that would otherwise go into one.

The desk is boss – a dark, rusticated wood finish monster from Amazon. Shelves, under-shelf lighting, etc. Right now, a laptop will reside on it's surface. As well as large mouse mats that will cover the entire thing. A homelab, maybe – not soon.

A simple, humble, quiet part of the Mississippi River delta (such a thing?).

To all the things!
