LIFE LESSONS I’VE LEARNED FROM MY CATS: Observation, Creativity, and Problem Solving

I never expected my cats to teach me about problem-solving, creativity, and observation skills, but over time, I have realized that they are absolute experts in these traits. Watching and analyzing how Rupert and Peanut navigate the world has given me a fresh viewpoint on approaching challenges, thinking outside the box, and noticing small details.

Observation: The Power of Noticing Small Details

Rupert and Peanut notice everything. They know that if I move anything in my environment, even an inch. If I am upset, they sense it before I even know it.

A lesson for Work and life: Small details matter. In design, coding, or problem-solving, noticing what others miss can be a powerful advantage.

Problem-Solving: There’s Always Another Way

If I block a door, Rupert finds another way. He figures it out if I hide his treats or something he wants. He refuses to believe in dead ends.

Lesson: Too often, I see obstacles and assume I am stuck. But what if I approached challenges like Rupert does? If something isn’t working, I need to look for another way.

Adaptability: Change Is Constant — Embrace It

Peanut hates change… until he doesn’t. But in a couple of days, he adjusts completely. Change initially feels awkward, but I often adjust faster than I expect.

Lesson: Resistance to change is natural, but adaptation is inevitable. New challenges, tools, and experiences might initially feel overwhelming but soon become second nature.

Creativity: The Best Ideas Seem Weird at First

Rupert doesn’t see a box — he sees a spaceship. He doesn’t see a string — he sees hours of entertainment.

Lesson: Creativity involves seeing past what is and imagining what could be. Although it often looks odd at first, that’s where breakthroughs happen.

The Big Takeaway: Stay Curious

Rupert and Peanut don’t just live in their surroundings — they explore it. They test every new setting and explore strange sounds.

Lesson: Curiosity fuels learning and creativity. I stop growing when I

stop questioning, experimenting, and playing with ideas.
