Poverty

It's so frustrating having people close to me go through poverty, homelessness, and other hardships. I feel limited in what I can do: I'm not wealthy, I don't have my own place, and I haven't learned enough about the programs that exist that can help them.

It's equally terrifying in the present day with the Coronavirus being the threat that it is. Having to risk your health for shelter should never be a choice that needs to be made.

Beyond just those close to me, so many more people have to experience it as well. My heart aches to do more to help. I'm donating to different causes when feasible and I'm learning how to connect people to mutual aid resources when needed. But those only go so far, and feel so distant from the problem itself. Volunteering would be best, and I hope that more opportunities become apparent to me as I lean more into local activism.

I'm sorry if this post comes across as me complaining instead of helping. It is not my intention. I just need to vent.
