Defeat
There once was a mouse.
Who lived in my house,
and I could not bear the thought.
Determined I was
to rid my house
of this little mouse,
so I devised a plot.
I set out a trap
that would close with a snap,
thereby removing
this particular feature.
And I,
I would be done
with this silly creature.
Late that night I woke
to a squeaky yelp
and an oh-so-certain snap,
and so I cuddled in my blanket,
knowing the job was done.
The very next day I stirred with a smile,
not worrying about that little pest for a while.
Alas, what did I find?
The trap snapped that much was sure,
but instead of a dead little mouse,
what did I find but a tiny
sculpture made of cheese,
heroically posed
in the perfect likeness
of my little nemesis.
