Fall in Love with Poets

They make excellent lovers. But poor housemates!
Fall in love with a poet—
at least once in your life.
But don’t live with them,
lest ye see the sausage made—
And brother, artisanal, it is not!
They’ll worship your morning eyes,
linger for an eternity upon
the perfect curl of your smile,
and write sonnets to your breath.
While cabinets yawn open,
laundry becomes sculpture,
and wineglass rings grow metaphors
on the edge of every counter.
Glory be—your heart will
spark as holy wildfire.
They’ll light your soul with
cathedrals of glowing love,
yet forget the milk,
forget the keys,
forget the time—
lost again (and again) in yesterday’s sunset.
But, I do recommend
Falling in love with a poet—
Though any ol' artist or dancer will do!
At least
Once.
