Psalm for the Broken

You are close to the brokenhearted
Jehovah protect her
Guide her disquieted heart
And give her your peace
That excels all thought
Oh my God, these times are critical,
Desperate—and we, as you know,
Are doing our best.
But the pressure is beginning
To fissure our bodies
Our minds and our souls
Help her tonight to find
The quiet glen of hope
And see through time
To your day of golden life
Jehovah, do not let her flounder
Or fear—let not guilt's weight
Crush or break her apart
Draw close to a good soul
And salve the disquiet
Soothe the painful wounds
And prop up a tired mind
For there is so much work to do
And she, a warrior among us
Is the force of life we need
A Deborah in the pause
Before the war
Oh, Jehovah! Do not forget
Your lowly one who tries
So hard and never quits
This lovely soldier of your large army
