Second Hand Hope

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”
The day started early and that meant a LOT got accomplished. Especially getting to spend time with friends in the preaching work. This really shapes the day with brilliance. I wish everyone could experience this.
Hot early this morning—summer is upon us. Too bad; I was just starting to enjoy spring. It was pleasant, though warm. Met some interesting people today.
First, a woolly, grease-covered man, frustrated that his ex-wife is weaponizing their children in family court. He used to be very religious. He told me the huge church down the street—the one with the massive gold dome—is for sale due to a schism in the congregation. They split, joined different churches, and now the building’s on the market. The minister was sent packing.
Another man is just waiting to die. Every oldest male in his family, he said, has died in their mid-twenties. He’s 54 now and just wants to go to heaven. The military wrecked his back—he can’t work, can’t even fish. He’s only hanging on for his wife. Sadly, he says the Bible feels too contradictory to believe anymore.
Our third conversation was with a man who chased us down the street—he thought we had a check for him. When we explained our visit was about the Bible, he got angry. We’d interrupted his breakfast.
Got a lot of writing done today. My short story ran long and suffers from bloat. Lesson (hopefully) learned: avoid info dumps.
Watching The Hot Chick with Rob Schneider—Miss Wehrl thinks it’s hilarious. She’s finally coming out of that constant sleep state. Lots of complaints about comfort. I don’t think she’s ever really been sick before. Maybe depression is compounding things. I’m trying to be kind and attentive, but I got up too early today and patience is a little harder to come by. Still practicing. I can feel the frustration simmering underneath.
Calm. Calm. Calm.
Breeeeeaaaath.
Remember how I hoped that meeting would bring in some work? A few billable hours tomorrow—so: WIN! 🙂
