Seek
A little Dorothy Parker from 1926

If you and I were one, my dear,
A model life we’d lead.
We’d travel on, from year to year,
At no increase of speed.
Ah, clear to me the vision of
The things that we should do!
And so I think it best, my love,
To string along as two.
My own dear love, she is strong and bold
And she cares not what comes after.
Her words ring sweet as chime of gold,
And her eyes are lit with laughter.
She’ll live her days where the sunbeam start,
Nor could storm or wind uproot her .
My own dear love, she is all my heart, –
And I wish somebody’d shoot her.
By the time you swear you’re hers,
Shivering and sighing,
And she vows her passion is
Infinite, undying –
Friend, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.
Oh, seek, my love, your newer way;
I’ll not be left in sorrow.
So long as I have yesterday,
Go take your damned to-morrow!

I love these pages... nothing unstable or cereal-killer-esque here at aallll... Excuse me, I have some yarn and thumbtacks calling my names.
