Every path leads somewhere. Some lead to great adventure.
When AstroBuck was first tapped for the Orbital Maintenance Corp, it seemed like a dream come true. He’d rack up more zero-G time than any of his hot-shot classmates with which he’d graduated flight academy. Great adventure was, perhaps a bit of an overestimate of the life of satellite repairman. The Sp-Kts-72’s were constantly breaking down it was less a matter how to repair them all than it was to just show up, punch the clock and start pecking away.
At least his service-kit, BMSe-2 was an effective companion with an adjustable humor setting. Buck’s job was less about actually turning bolts and more about analyzing the failure and talking BMSe-2 through the various processes for keeping the signal flowing.
Not glamorous, but certainly necessary. As they say, ‘if the girls don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy’.
