The Demand
Love says I cannot have you.
It does not say I cannot love you.
Love enjoins that I must wait.
To expect nothing, give everything,
To live a life worthy of esteem,
Perfecting patience and generosity.
Love reminds that it crosses oceans of time
And galaxies of distance.
Love decrees that
The same moon lights our night,
That we are always free
To bask under the same sky.
For love says you are never forgotten
And love demands you remain in my heart.
