Thirty Five Years From Now
We will stand on the beach
At the top of a dune at sunset
While the gulls cry in the distance
And the reedy grass dances in the
Evening wind
I will turn to you and say
That it has been
A great honor
To love and
Protect you
You inspire in me a desire
For loyalty and faithfulness
And you will
Giggle and say
‘What? I can’t hear you
Over the wind and the gulls.’
So I’ll just smile and
Put my arm around you
It will be then
That I realize
You have been
Gone for some time
And I will be saddened
That my mission is done
But the feeling of honor
Will be just as real as
It is today
