Tom Guald Appreciation Moment
Let me introduce a delightful artist
There are a LOT of writers out there that I think are just absolute GENIUS... but I'd like to take a moment right now to point out how terrific is the comic sensibility of Tom Guald.
With few exceptions, I love everything he's ever posted. It is usually succinct and funny. While I haven't purchased everything he's published, I am darn near a completest.

The concept of brevity being the soul of wit is at its essence in his work. As an artist and writer who overworks EVERYTHING, it is a heartening reminder to me that there is strength and power in leaving things out. Though, like Schultz, I suspect it takes A LOT of effort to that. Hertzfeldt is another one that is just great at minimizing how much he puts in a frame at any given time.
Another wonderful quality is how frequently he focuses on scientific and BOOKS! Books have lost their once lofty status as the pinnacle of human knowledge and entertainment. At least in the minds of the masses. But for a minority today, they are still at the pinnacle of human achievement in regards to exchanging ideas and information. And Mister Gauld does a beautiful job of making a love of books a frequent showcase in his writing and art.
Thank you Tom Gauld. I hope I can be half the writer you are when I grow up.
