Who, Am I

“I bear loyalty in one hand and longing in the other; I know who I am not, and from that knowing, I begin to become.”
I am one who feels to the
Marrow of bones.
I am one who hungers for beauty
As the hart pants for water.
I am one who yearns to be the beloved—
wanted utterly, without end.
In my right hand
I bear the covenant of loyalty;
in my left,
the fire of yearning.
I have walked with pain
and did not turn aside,
though it broke me upon its wheel.
I am called to write,
to love (and to be loved),
to wander the earth,
to fashion creation from dust.
Once I was not given the field to bloom,
yet now the bud breaks,
and I begin to open.
I do not yet know the fullness of my name.
But I know the man I am not,
and that knowing is the first stone
of the temple I shall become.
