Wing on the Wind
Happiness, where have you gone?
To what land have you taken wing?
It must be so far away,
Over mountain, desert and sea.
For long gone are the light
And warmth and peace that you bring.
Oh, little bird, the weight that you bear,
Who am I that you would notice me?
A shrinking violet in shadow,
A barely noticed thing.
Not worthy of the time or trouble it takes to
Light for a moment and set me free
From these doldrums with a maelstrom
Begun with the single flap of your wings.
It would drive my ship from lost
To a shore where I was meant to be.
Cold loneliness compliments
The silence to which I cling.
Thank you for this single egg of patience
That I will clasp to me
With delicate attention and warmth of soul
I will serenade it with the song that I sing.
I will nurture it through this long winter
Until the warmth and sunshine no longer flee.
When spring returns, whereupon we learn
Just what the future brings.
Until then, I will make sure of all that is good
And hold fast to what is fine indeed.
And I will pray, my little happiness,
That those new winds will sing
And guide you back on soft winds
To me.
Thanks for reading and sharing my beautiful lie.
